Overall Satisfaction with Chargebee

We are a B2B SaaS company with annual contracts. We handle about 1000 contracts annually and almost 3xing YoY. Our subscription management operations used to be on Google Sheets - but beyond a point it's just not possible to do that. There are a myriad of deviations that keep happening - split invoices, payment follow-ups, rate changes annually, etc. - managing on Google Sheets just not possible. Plus payment follows ups for 1000+ customers. That's where Chargebee comes into picture - helping us handle our subscription management - from generating invoices to automated follow-ups for payment to creating various reports. It also integrates with our payment tracking platform (QuickBooks) and automatically updates when payment is received. There are some limitations in terms of handling all use cases - but 90% of the operations get handled here.
  • Invoice generation
  • Reporting on collections
  • Integrations with other RevOps systems - Hubspot, Quickbooks, etc.
  • Handling a variety of invoice scenarios
  • Everything comes at an added cost; so clarity on how much will you actually spend is always lacking
  • Setup is quite complex - takes 3-4 months for things to get up and running and then some more
  • Automated renewals
  • Customisable Reporting
  • Invoice generation
  • Our collection days have come down from ~65 to ~45
  • Stronger processes around collections in place - automated follow-ups, no missed reminders, etc.
  • Reports give visibility to accounts at risk due to non-payment
Chargebee is a class apart from Zoho Books - better in all aspects - better interface, more functionalities, integrations that actually work, responsive support, customisable automated reporting, more customizability.

The only difference is pricing - Zoho comes at about 10% of what Chargebee costs. So for startups looking to graduate from Google Sheets and on a budget - Zoho will serve your purposes - but eventually will have to move to something like a Chargebee.

Well-suited:
  • In a B2B set up - Post achieving some scale and having outgrown Google Sheets/ Excels. Won't add much value if you are dealing with fewer than 400-500 invoices a year.
  • We haven't explored their B2C subscription management side - but that is one of the key strengths of the platform.
