Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points

We use Wireless access points across 10 geographically diverse locations from manufacturing to officespace and utilize a single pane of glass console to manage it.

Pros

  • strong coverage
  • easily managed
  • reliable support

Cons

  • connectivity to Control console
  • Cost
  • clarity on product line differences
  • management time saving
  • Uptime
  • integration
The devices work great and I have little downtime. My only frustration is that they will occasionally fall out of communication with the controller and I can't tell why always. This has been an ongoing issue that luckily doesn't impact their ability to provide wireless coverage for devices. If this affected connectivity, it would be a more serious issue.
these were rolled out effectively across our entire footprint simultaneously. and as we have added additional facilities, these have seamlessly joined that network. They mount quick and appear in the controller in minutes. easily configured to match or not the other access points already deployed. I have definitely dealt with more frustrating implementations.
with my cisco resource, we deployed a wireless controller VM in a day. After device arrival, programming them was very quick, and easy to replicate from one Access point to the next. Mounting these devices was a breeze with included mounting brackets. Users were online within minutes of the devices connecting to the controller. Operating over Power over ethernet made this painless.
This controller was easily deployed into our existing Virtual machine environment and has been easy to maintain within. This controller manages an international footprint of over a dozen sites worth of access points from a single pane. I am able to see when new access points connect, when they disconnect, mail an access point anywhere and see it connect to my controller.
Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points was a replacement for Meraki. the biggest challenge with Meraki that Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points solved was the licensing and purchase model. meraki was much more expensive and carried a lifetime license that Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points didn't have. I enjoyed the performance of both but from a ROI standpoint, Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points made much more sense for our business.

Large enterprise facilities that depend on uptime are more likely to want to go with Aironet access points than a cheaper alternative. They are highly reliable and experienced very rare downtime with these access points. You will need IT Budget to go this route over cheaper competitors, but it will be money well spent.
