Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points

Cisco 2800 Series
I have used cisco Aironet product earlier and it was far better in coverage than the latest Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points although latest one is with better throughput

Pros

  • It provide enterprise grade wireless connectivity
  • Clean air feature for RF interference
  • Flexconnect feature
  • Mobilty express feature where we can use it as controller too

Cons

  • Cisco Aironet APs throughput was not much
  • AI features cannot be used if using aironet AP
  • Wifi6 feature not possible to use
  • Aironet access points were APs which were durable
  • It was also having quite enhanced security feature when compared with other OEM APs
  • It was although costly as compared with other OEM like HPE and Juniper
I have used Aironet APs for 10 years starting from 1100 series to 3800 series and performance wise never faced any issues with AP where it is related to its hardware or software
Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points are also flexible and scalable like aironet and can be used at multiple places or site and all of them can be managed by controller at one place.Flexconnect features of AP is something which is still relevant with Cisco Catalyst 9100 Access Points
After purchasing and getting devices delivered, we implemented controller and and AP in a day easily through zero day configuration feature. All others configuration are also very simple and can be easily done. Due to this it is easier to migrate from old setup to latest and new one without much downtime
Latest controller also allow us to effectively extend our network coverage across longer distances by using APs and proper connectivity
Cisco product is more secure than other and also very robust when it comes to hardware. Other OEM devices are not as rugged as Cisco

Aironet AP can still be used in environment where throughput is not an issue, and we just need coverage for connection. It is less appropriate in todays world as we are moving away from coverage-based requirement to the best available wireless features of less interference,high throughput
