Overall Satisfaction with CrashPlan

CrashPlan is being used on our mission critical servers as a backup solution. We have removed tapes and disk backups to move over to CrashPlan. We also backup the company owners' laptops with CrashPlan. We do file restores which is faster than mounting the backup LUN and moving files over. It has saved us a lot of time doing restores.
  • Crashplan is easy to install and set up.
  • Crashplan is very easy to restore files.
  • Crashplan is a program that you can set it and forget it because you know it's working. If it stops working you can have it alert you so you know something is wrong.
  • Having the ability to just have it backup at one certain time would be a nice feature, instead of having it run all the time.
  • We came up for renewal on our old backup solution we decided to go with crashplan which saved us $8000 per year right from the start.
  • The other great thing about crashplan is we have unlimited backup to their cloud service or we can also backup to our local server.
From the way we used it, CrashPlan is better at restoring and backing up than both of these programs. Now there are some nice features that Unitrends had that CrashPlan does not but there are ways around those limitations.
For our organization CrashPlan has been great to use on our mission critical servers as our backup solution. We take snapshots of all our servers via our SAN but this helps get all the files we need as well just in case. We also use it to restore user files when they are accidentally deleted off network drives.
