Overall Satisfaction with D&B Hoovers

I am a research analyst for a labor organization. I generally use D&B Hoovers to gather information on a private company's high level aggerate sales figures, related industry news, and prescreen score. The prescreen score is very useful as it helps us determine the stability of a company prior to attempting to organize them. The closest industry peers is also very helpful to determine similar organizing targets.

  • The software has streamlined researching high level figures for private companies where there are no other sources.
  • Looking into parent companies and subsidiaries is very clear and ease to understand.
  • The corporate overview gives all the necessary NAIC codes I need to update our internal databases.
  • Industry peers and closets companies are helpful in similar organizing targets.
When I look into a company for organizing purposes I find the closets companies and industry peers very useful for similar targets. The contacts decision matrix page is useful to determine key figures current titles and locations for outreach, as well as site contacts. Smaller details like plant size by square footage is also helpful and sometimes challenging to determine outside of this software.
I have found the contact data on site contacts and contact decision matrix to be on par with general search's and company web pages. Contact decision matrix is very useful as many companies spread their contacts across multiple pages. The matrix lays it all out in order of importance to easily determine who is worth research further.
I currently use Lexis AI for similar work. I find Lexis AI to have better overall company summaries but it is a bit more over the top when it comes to reviewing site contacts and the like at a medium size company. D&B Hoovers streamlines this a bit but could take notes from Lexis AI for expanding upon certain sections like the company description.

A common example that I refer to which fits both categories would be employee counts. When OSHA 300 logs are unavailable for a particular manufacturing or related facility, D&B Hoovers employee count is a great source. When OSHA logs are available, I tend to use them instead as D&B Hoovers is not as accurate or pulling that information for a credible source in my opinion.

D&B Hoovers is very user friendly. Its tabs provide are easy to understand for what topics you are looking to review while doing a company search. For example, site contacts is clearly all the contacts point at a particular location. So if you need to get contact information for xyz individual at a company its right at your fingertips.
