Overall Satisfaction with Db2

Db2 database provides the reliable transaction processing (OTLP) capability along with robust data security and compliance features. High availability and disaster recovery is one of the critical aspect provided by the Db2. Db2 database has been used to store the customer information, policy details, offers, discount calculation, insurance claims etc. Across the organization IBM products were used so Db2 provided a seamless integration.
  • Integration with other IBM products
  • Online Data processing
  • Cost effective as compared with Oracle
  • Data warehouse
  • Lacks 3rd party integration or limited flexibility.
  • Getting Db2 experts now a days are difficult.
  • Other RDBMS are evolving much faster than Db2 features.
  • Highly available database which could support large transactions.
  • Better return of investment in licensing terms.
  • Not lots of people available with Db2 administration knowledge.
Db2 offers several features which contribute it's high scalability like table partitioning, database partitioning, parallel processing, workload management. Multidimensional Clustering (MDC) and In-Database analytics features enable the enhanced query performance for analytical workloads. To optimize the IO and storage Db2 facilitate data compression and Automatic Storage Management.
High Availability and Automatic Failover ensure critical systems remain operational the face of hardware failures or unexpected disruptions. HADR (High Availability Disaster Recovery) feature enables automatic replication of a primary database to one or more standby database. Db2 schema supports online schema changes which is particularly useful during system upgrades or modifications. Multi-Versioning Concurrency Control (MVCC) allows multiple transactions to be in progress simultaneously without locking the entire database. This concurrency control mechanism reduces contention and improves performance.
Db2 is one of the oldest and mature rdbms available in the market. IBM products were already been used in the organization. Cost effective in terms of licensing.

Db2 has been able to handle large transactions efficiently. Db2 offers robust security features, including access controls, encryption, auditing, high availability and disaster recovery etc. have been in the center place when we chosen Db2 database. As Db2 is IBM proprietary product hence not having very much open source integrations/tools to run the operations.
