Use Cases and Deployment Scope

DraftSight is being used in my department for 2D CAD to supplement a more comprehensive 3D CAD suite. It was originally intended to help bridge the transition period between the two systems, but here we are still using it for some reason.

Pros and Cons

maintain legacy drawings
accessing older client drawings

crashes frequently
help section is useless
has become far too expensive for what it is

Return on Investment

It was cheap.

Alternatives Considered

AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS, Siemens Solid Edge and CATIA

Any fully fledged CAD system will be far superior but ultimately more expensive.

SOLIDWORKS

Likelihood to Recommend

If you are desperate for a 2D CAD solution for very little money that you will only use sporadically, DraftSight might be worth investigating. Even then, it has become cost-prohibitive and so difficult to recommend.

If it will be used at all regularly, you should look at other products.
