Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox
We use Dropbox to store all of our project documents and to share plans as well as design books with trades. Architectural plans and interior design books are typically quite large files that cannot be sent as attachments, etc., usig Dropbox allows us to share all needed information with everybody who needs it in real time. It also allows cloud storage for living documents that are shared. Both are huge for us as a company.
Pros
- Shares large files with outside users
- Allows sharing of living documents within our organization
- Tracks changes, to know who changed or deleted something
Cons
- The online application is a bit more clunky than the PC loaded app in my opinion. Would be nice if the online application worked as smoothly.
- Sometimes the PC app does not update immediately and requires a reboot to make sure the files are syncing properly I've found.
- Prior to being able to share documents via Dropbox, we would have to print 15-20 sets of architectural plans at the cost of $60-100/set for the purposes of bidding per job. Often times would then need to print additional sets after final permit. We now only print 3 sets for our own use. Huge savings.
