Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox

We use Dropbox within our organization to store files and have external folders to share with clients. It helps us to have external locations that we can easily share with clients, and the security offered by the built in password protection is useful. Given a lot of clients work in word or excel, it is helpful to have Dropbox for this.

Pros

  • File syncing & backup is robust and efficient. By only synching the changed parts of each file, uploads are quicker
  • Good sharing controls: Password-protected links, expiration dates, download limits, and viewer tracking are all super useful
  • Online-only file storage locally saves disk space

Cons

  • The search tools are pretty basic. It doesn’t let you filter by tags, dates, metadata, or file type. If you’ve got a large collection of files, finding what you need can be tedious .
  • Preview quality is also hit-or-miss, small text in PDFs often isn’t readable until you download the file.
  • I'm not really sure how to answer this one, I think it's a helpful tool but I wouldn't say it's dramatically impacted our business objectives.
Dropbox is very easy to use for most essential workflows, which merits a strong score around 8/10. It has a clean and intuitive interface which is easy for people to use. However, I do find it easier to work collaboratively in things like Google Docs, but that might just be personal preference.
I use a combination of both -- drive and google docs for when we're working on a live document and then Dropbox for storing final documents. This combo works, but it would be great if there was a way I could do everything in one place.

Do you think Dropbox delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Dropbox's feature set?

Yes

Did Dropbox live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Dropbox go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Dropbox again?

Yes

Really useful for sharing files in a secure way with clients, and storing things long term. But I do prefer to use Google Docs for collaborative working on word-style docs as I find it easier to add comments and track changes. If I need detailed workflows, audit trails, electronic signatures with legal compliance, or strict version control I wouldn't use Dropbox.
