Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox for Business

Dropbox for business is our primary tool for sharing and collaboration across our entire organization. We found that it works really well for our workforce the majority of which are remote or mobile employees. Dropbox for Business reduces our need for connecting to VPN to access internal resources such as SharePoint or network file shares. It also has a much more user friendly interface for sharing documents which are edited by multiple users.
  • The interface is very easy to learn and use. This helps are associates stay productive as well as reducing the need for training and support calls with "how do I..."questions
  • Along with the user interface the Administrative interface is also easy to learn and use. This allows us to manage a large number of Dropbox users with a small number of IT staff.
  • Sharing and collaboration is easy with both internal and external resources. There are no complicated security groups or rights that need to be set up in order to allow sharing.
  • Dropbox is limited to content which is stored in the Dropbox folder. It isn't realistic for our users to move all documents and folders into the Dropbox folder. It would be nice to have the same sharing and syncing ability to any folder in the user profile.
  • You are not able to rename a shared folder once it has been shared to a group. You can rename the local copy, but you are not able to rename the shared folder on everyone's device.
  • Dropbox is often confused with being a backup tool. It would be nice if Dropbox had a clear marketing stance on this.
  • We haven't yet had this tool deployed for a long enough time to give a true report on ROI. It has however allowed us to start consolidating tools which will result in cost savings.
We tested Dropbox for Business with several competitors. Most notably with OneDrive for Business and Google Drive. We found that it had a much more reliable syncing engine that OneDrive, especially when going between Operating Systems. Google also had a fine syncing engine and was usable on all platforms, but was not as user or admin friendly to use. We also found that Dropbox already had a much higher adoption rate in our enterprise for personal use which meant that it most of our associates were already familiar and knew how to use it.
Dropbox for Business is great for associates wanting to sync folders and files between devices of all types and Operating Systems. It is also well suited as a sharing and collaboration between associates and with external partners. It is not well suited as a backup tool in an enterprise since it does not allow backup of files and folders outside of the Dropbox folder.
