Overall Satisfaction with Dynatrace

It is used within our department currently, from the infrastructure layer to the database. One of the major use cases for us is establishing a clear idea of our service flow within an application and where we need to focus to streamline our apps for the customer. Basically, we'd like to know how many things call what, how many times are databases being hit, how many items are fetched and returned.

Pros

  • Support. Quick response, fast resolution whenever I have reached out.
  • Clear separation on whether the issue is infra, code, or db related.
  • Straightforward agent installation and gate setup.

Cons

  • Timeframe presets.
  • Sorting.
  • It is difficult to judge the actual ROI on this product, but the experience has been positive for us.
Dynatrace has a more intuitive interface and a plethora of metrics to dashboard with. They have excellent customer support and Dynatrace seemed the least invasive of the APMs we tested on hooking into our .net apps.
Dynatrace is well suited for:
  • When the map of service flow is incomplete.
  • Synthetic monitoring for when you want to be proactive.
  • When you want to know exactly what your code is doing.
