Overall Satisfaction with Dynatrace

We currently use Dynatrace to monitor our applications. We plan to use it to not only monitor our applications but to also monitor our server environment, Docker and F5.
  • Server monitor
  • Application monitor
  • Upgrades
  • Main screen - update the grey to black
  • Allow trusted Certs to be put directly into CACERTS file.
  • Emails keep us up to date on the servers and application performance.
  • We can view application performance.
We brought in 3 different tools but one tool crashed our .NET environment and the other didn't offer as many options as Dynatrace. We started out using AppMon but moved to Dynatrace Managed after seeing what all it offered. We also use Dynatrace Synthetic so our 3 public websites can be monitored to ensure they remain up at all times.
When it comes to support - they do respond right away. I have three ways to get answers when I have an issue. One way is called Dynatrace One where you can send an email with your problem and you get an answer back within a few minutes. The second way is to open up a ticket within their ticket system and they respond back to those within that day. The last way is to contact our sales team - they will get the right people to help us out.

Do you think Dynatrace delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Dynatrace's feature set?

Yes

Did Dynatrace live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Dynatrace go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Dynatrace again?

Yes

Monitoring servers and applications from start to finish. I do like their ability to capture and record web clicks so you can see exactly what a client/customer is doing on your website so you can figure out what went wrong or how to improve the site. Love the fact that you can view a vCenter environment to see what is going on and like the emails I receive when something goes wrong.

Dynatrace Feature Ratings

Using Dynatrace

50 - We have the software administrators using it, some of our developers using the tool and our infrastructure team using it. We have a pilot project that we are just starting to monitor devices as well as to monitor F5 environment. We just found out that they will be expanding the F5 monitoring capabilities in the near future so we will look at that too.
24 - We currently have 4 Dynatrace administrators but I'm the only one who is responsible for most of the work. I started out as a developer and moved into an administrator position so I think that has helped out with Dynatrace support. This tool is very easy to use so I don't think you need too much expertise.
  • Application monitoring
  • Notification when something starts to go wrong
  • We are able to monitor F5
  • We have used it to view into VMCenter
  • Hoping to use it to monitor important devices
  • Hoping they can expand F5 monitoring
We have already renewed our purchase with the company. They make it easy for us to get a temporary license for our contingency site that is only used for testing twice a year. We are expanding our license with for this tool. We find it very useful and will renew it again.

Evaluating Dynatrace and Competitors

  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
  • Analyst Reports
  • Third-party Reviews
The most important feature we needed was a product that would tell us from beginning to end what an application was doing. As an software administrator we were told too many times that our software was broke by a developer. After getting this tool we found out more times that we can count that it wasn't our software it was their code.
We evaluated three tools and two of them were similar and one crashed one of our environment and took too long to install (3 days) so we went with the one that we all liked the most. It turned out to be Dynatrace and are happy with the tool and the changes they have made to their product.

Dynatrace Implementation

Each cluster updates must be done.
Change management was minimal - We only put in a change management ticket when doing changes to Dynatrace version.
  • Certification input
  • Version upgrade - must be done for every cluster update.

Dynatrace Training

  • Online training
  • in-person training
We did both online and in house training - they used our system so it made more sense.
The training was done on our time and with our system.
