Overall Satisfaction with Dynatrace

Dynatrace is being used in our application development department, primarily to detect, prevent and troubleshoot issues in Production, but also to assist with testing in lower environments. We use the tool with a variety of technologies, and for a variety of applications (internal and customer facing) of wildly differing sizes.

  • User Experience Management and Tracking
  • Cost
  • No Safeguard for Licensing Consumption, which could lead to large, unexpected costs
  • Allowed us to quickly resolve more issues that I can count
  • Cost is restrictive, as a result we cannot monitor everything we would like to
Dynatrace seems to blow its competitors out of the water in everything but the price. The tool is quick to set up, easy to use and has enough depth to it that it can be extended to perform a wide variety of different tasks. Competitors do not seem to have the same extensibility or depth that Dynatrace does.
Support has always been highly responsive and eager to help resolve issues that we have had with the products. However, there have been a few times that issue tickets have remained open for quite some time (waiting for Dynatrace development teams to further research the causes of issues). When this happened, our current version of the product came out of support and the ticket was immediately closed as a result. We were unable to reopen the ticket because we were in a freeze during our peak season and could not upgrade our environment quickly enough to meet the requirements of the support group.

Dynatrace is a highly powerful, highly advanced, monitoring tool. It is capable of keeping tabs on the entire application stack for many, many applications. It is highly scalable, easy to implement and quite verbose in the information that it provides. However, it may not be ideally suited for all use cases. Be cognizant of what you are looking to do and remember that you don't always need to use a chainsaw to slice bread.
