A great all-in-one solution for teams looking for a solid design hub
Overall Satisfaction with Figma
We use Figma across our organization, but it is mainly used by our team of designers. The design team inputs their designs into Figma, and we use that file to share with other internal teams (such as developers) and to present designs to external clients. The most important problem that it has solved (and one of the main reasons we're using it) is that we wanted a streamlined app that would allow us to hand off all design assets to our developers.
Pros
- Figma is a great app for sharing designs amongst team resources. Our designers are able to use it to make edits to each other's work.
- Figma is an adequate hub for housing design assets so that our developers have everything they need to build a site.
- The sharing settings are very satisfactory, and I can give different permissions (like view, edit, etc.) to people based on their role in the project.
Cons
- It's not extremely user-friendly. There is definitely a learning curve for Figma that may not exist for similar apps.
- I think the user experience for a viewer should be different from that of an editor. Obviously, a viewer wouldn't have the ability to edit, but it'd be nice to be able to click on a page in the sidebar and be immediately taken to that design without having to use the prototype function.
- The prototype function is not as user-friendly and streamlined as other prototype apps I've used.
- The most significant ROI has been time. It has saved our design team a lot of time that they used to spend packaging up designs and delivering them.
- Figma can sometimes be a little confusing for our clients who have access. There is more time spent onboarding new users than with other apps we've used.
- The comment function allows us to house any notes for the developer on the designs themselves instead of having to send separate documentation.
This isn't a 1:1 comparison because InVision doesn't have all of the same features as Figma (it operates primarily as a prototype app). Figma allows you to house actual design files in addition to its prototype feature, but InVision's prototype is easier to use. If a team is looking for an all-in-one solution, Figma is the way to go.
