Overall Satisfaction with GIMP

GIMP is a go-to application for me to perform all kinds of graphical creation and editing. I've used it to update company logos, to create and modify technical diagrams, to convert graphical formats, to upscale files, design client's digital greeting cards, and more.
  • photo editing
  • provide compatibility with numerous file formats
  • make it very simple to manipulate layers in a file
  • Plugins
  • GIMP should make the font tool more intuitive. Make it easier to change fonts during edit process without resetting the typeface selection.
  • Build in selection/move ability within tools like the typeface tool... I.e. don't require toggle between selection tool and typeface tool when wanting to move a line of type within a layer. Likewise with shapes, etc.
  • There is no downside here. GIMP is freely available and is worth the downloading and installing.
While Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator are the gold standards, there is nothing I've used for as long which compares for overall graphical content creation/editing offered freely that comes close to what GIMP can accomplish. For vector formats, I prefer to work in something more suited for the task. Inkscape is my current choice.

Inkscape combined with GIMP make a pretty powerful combo for graphical work.

Do you think GIMP delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with GIMP's feature set?

Yes

Did GIMP live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of GIMP go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy GIMP again?

Yes

GIMP is best suited as somewhat of a Photoshop alternative: image creation/editing, graphic design, and is especially true when dealing with raster files.

For vector formats, I prefer a tool more suited such as Inkscape.

Using GIMP

1 - I am the sole user of GIMP at my company. I am a senior IT engineer and also double as a content creator when required.
1 - Familiarity with basic graphical design concepts, filetypes, etc. Experience with Photoshop will translate well.
  • Graphic editing: image editing, touch-ups...
  • Content creation: logos, promo material...
  • Upscaling and image file conversion...
Capability, open architecture, compatibility with Photoshop plugins, wide platform coverage; To me, as an open-source, freely available application, it's the nest-in-class.

Evaluating GIMP and Competitors

As simple as can be. Download from GIMP website and install.
Change management was minimal - There were no change management processes involved in the implementation of GIMP at my company.
