Overall Satisfaction with Gusto

I have used Gusto for nearly 5 years now with my current company and I love it! Ours is a 100% remote business, and Gusto makes time tracking, payroll, and PTO requests very easy. The format and UI are really well-designed, easy to navigate, and intuitive. My company recently tried using another app for this service, one that offered more HR support, but it was just so ineffective compared to Gusto that we switched back after only a few months. And I was so happy that we did!

Pros

Cons

  • I've noticed that if you click anywhere outside of the window, when adding hours, it will remove what you have entered already.
  • As an employee, I don't have any perspective on the productivity increases Gusto has had on our business. However, I do believe that appearances are crucial especially when it comes to payroll management! When trying out the "lesser" competitor, I and my colleagues, were struck by how much "cheaper" that platform felt. Additionally, it resulted in a great many issues with regard to pay calculation and if you want to see your employees get upset quickly, mess with their pay. We all breathed a sigh of relief when we switched back to Gusto.
Gusto is an incredibly well-designed app/site. I happen to have a design degree, so I feel somewhat more qualified to say this than the average employee. Gusto is beautiful and yet totally functional. It is cute and yet still professional. The user interface is intuitive and easy to navigate. I enjoy using Gusto and always feel in control of my timesheet and payroll.

After using Gusto for payroll and timekeeping for multiple years, I was shocked at how poor Deputy was in comparison. It felt cheap, clunky, and unreliable. We experienced so many payroll issues while using this platform that I became worried about the future of our business. I also think that had I not been with the company for so long prior to this switch, I would have made some negative assumptions about the company based on this shoddy platform. Switching back to Gusto was such a relief.

I haven't found any scenarios where Gusto has been ineffective, but as I mentioned previously, my superiors were looking for a platform that offered more HR support. For me as an employee, Gusto has been awesome, particularly when tax season rolls around. I think that the HR services my company was looking for are unique to the needs of a 100% remote business.
