Overall Satisfaction with HipChat

We used HipChat to facilitate developer communication.

Pros

  • Good communication tool.
  • Excellent integrations.
  • Strong support from Atlassian.

Cons

  • Easier guest access.
  • Better desktop applications would help a lot.
  • Improve XMPP support.
Overall, HipChat was the best for software developers, or at least tied with Slack. However, for non-technical people, Slack is much more friendly and easy to use. Hangouts, IRC, and Jabber all lack easy integrations with important business features, which is where HipChat and Slack really shine.
Great for development teams, less so for non-technical people.
