Overall Satisfaction with IBM API Connect

IBM API Connect has changed the traditional method of handling APIs and incorporating them into our business. The rich feature set and reliability have been proven to be very useful for our work. It is for this reason that the tools in monitoring and analytics are so important, as they facilitate tracking of an API, its usage frequency, and even areas where there may be congestion.

Pros

  • Enhancements in the use of API and it's versioning
  • Flexible cloud deployment capabilities with unified control
  • Continuous analytics and monitoring dashboard

Cons

  • Initial setup complexity requires expertise
  • Documentation could be more useful
  • Learning curve for new users
  • Reduced API development cycle
  • Enhanced security compliance and governance
  • Improved system integration efficiency
I can honestly say that the availability of the platform has been incredible, with almost no disruptions during the two years of the implementation. Availability is provided through the distributed architecture that may be deployed in multiple zones. We have had almost no cases of unplanned outages, and most maintenance operations were done during planned downtimes.
Prior to adopting IBM API Connect, there were two main competitors, MuleSoft. Although in the integration capabilities MuleSoft seemed to have an advantage, and regarding developer experience, IBM API Connect had a set of enterprise features for the API management.
