Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Jabber

Jabber is being used as our Unified Communications platform; however it is still in the infancy phases of deployment. We are actively testing other platforms for unified communications / desktop sharing / desk top video / and general collaboration. So far Jabber is leading this charge due to the integration and compatibility with our Cisco network and phone systems.
  • Communication escalation from chat to phone to message and across platform from desktop to mobile to tablet is a strength.
  • Telephony integration is one of the core strengths of the Jabber platform and is a primary differentiator for this platform.
  • Desktop integration and integration of other tools is a strength.
  • Presence and integration with Exchange / Outlook
  • CUCM can be difficult to manage when compared to other platforms and solutions.
  • Device flexibility is limited when compared to other solutions.
  • WebEx dependency can add per-user expense.
  • We were able to quantify savings on travel due to the deployment of the UC platform.
  • We were able to quantify a reduction in email messages as a result of the UC deployment.
  • Employees have stated that they are less likely to leave their desk to search for other employees now that they have Jabber on their desktop.
The two platforms offer similar functions and features; Skype for Business (S4B) offers a stronger integration with Outlook / Exchange, Active Directory, Azure Directory services and other Microsoft features. Jabber offers a better user telephony experience. Both platforms offer tools that enable users to do their jobs differently and more effectively (at times).
Jabber is well suited to the mid-large sized enterprise with an existing Cisco infrastructure. There are other platforms that offer better integration with existing tools and security, such as archiving / discovery, DLP, encryption, etc. Jabber is well suited for loosely regulated industries, as regulatory compliance may be cumbersome with the connectors, service accounts, and integration layers between CUCM and other systems. It is possible to reach sufficient regulatory controls with Jabber; however other platforms have been fully vetted with most major regulators and offer an almost turn-key solution and audit certification out of the box. We would likely choose Microsoft Skype for Business if we were not dependent on the legacy Cisco phone environment at our organization.
