Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Jama for all related activities regarding requirements and Functional Safety activities.

The tool is used by all development teams with great acceptance level.

reviews both internal or with external participants

Cons

some views can be more "user friendly" (ex. trace view does not scale the fields)
automation using "advanced" scripts especially for creating documentation.
read access to users with floating licence when the license is not avaiable (same as stakeholder license)

Return on Investment

clear interface with customers (reqif)
transparency with customers during the development
very low cost of maintenance during the development (versioning, etc.)

The main achievement has been to move away from server-based documentation with a repetitive and incomplete documentation in xls or PowerPoint. Each developer knows where to find the right information now and is able to understand the maturity of each item and its revision history, since the tool takes care of these aspects.

I am not able to compare Jama Connect with any other tool, since I have always used this tool for requirement and functional safety activities.

Likelihood to Recommend

Jama Connect works very well for organizations where the culture of using requirements and documentation in a systematic manner is already established and accepted. The tool is very easy to use and requires no specific knowledge for doing 90% of the tasks. On the other hand, the tool can be used in many ways, since there is very little automation and it is very customizable. This gives a lot of freedom on one side but also introduces a risk of being "misused" if the right discipline and approach is not applied.
