Overall Satisfaction with Jira Product Discovery

Jira Product Discovery helps us consolidate these inputs in one central place, score ideas based on business value, technical efforts and customer impact and create clear roadmaps that are easy to understand. The product supports transparency during planning discussions and it ensures that we invest resources into initiatives that align with goals. Our use case mainly focuses on improving collaboration during early stage product planning.

Pros

  • Clear roadmapping: it helps us communicate upcoming discussions with internal stakeholders
  • Smooth integration: Ideas and validated features can be directly converted into Jira tasks or epics
  • collaboration: it makes inputs centralised input from engineering team, customer facing teams and business stakeholders.

Cons

  • Advanced Reporting and Analysis: Reporting options are somewhat limited. It would be more helpful if it’s more customisable dashboards
  • better Support for cross project visibility: it is challenging to see dependencies overlaps across different projects. It could’ve been improved
  • More flexible roadmap customisations: Here customisation options are limited, formatting options could be improved
  • Improved Resource allocation: by comparing product ideas in a consistent framework we have reduced time spent on priorities and improved alignment
  • Faster decision making: Here roadmaps discussions that required multiple meetings are now more efficient
  • Increased Transparency: product teams leadership and other partners have shared view and thus reducing miscommunication and rework
I would rate it 8 because it provides a very intuitive and structured way to capture evaluate and prioritise product ideas across different teams. The interface is simple and enough for non technical stakeholders to use and it helps encouraging more participation. I didn’t rate it 10 as some areas could be more flexible.
We have evaluated above two for idea management and roadmap planning. Both are good and provide robust features. But the require more configuration efforts and didn’t integrate seamlessly as Jira discovery. We selected the Jira Product Discovery because it fits in the ecosystem we already using for development and project management at Nxp.

Yes

It is well suited for early stage product planning where ideas need to be collected and compared and evaluated. We use it to capture each insight, score ideas based on impacts and alignment done on those initiatives.
It is less appropriate in scenarios where development work is already fully defined and execution focused.
