We use it for Salesforce [administration] to try and import/update/amend data en mass.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Viewing data mappings
Having lists of historic maps
Getting granular in the way you update records

Cons

It can't handle some characters like : ; ) etc., in the field name which is really annoying as you don't realise it until you try to run the load.
Sometimes the process can be flaky and just not work for any good reason but that is rare.

Return on Investment

It speeds up and makes Salesforce [admininstration] more accurate

Alternatives Considered

Dataloader.io

I prefer Jitterbit mainly for its easy to navigate history files and the way you can map your updates.

For general Salesforce updates, I use it all the time over and above Salesforce Data Loader or Dataloader.io.
