Overall Satisfaction with Progress Kendo UI

The Kendo UI has been used for ASP MVC applications development (C#). Those applications are responsible for generating business reports for areas like manufacturing and energy distribution, based on data stored in relational databases (SQL Server and Oracle).
  • Reporting generation (features like reporting generation speed, friendly maintenance and exporting capabilities are really good).
  • Controls (extensions) availability is good, addressing the major part of interface development issues.
  • Fair amount of themes (skins) ready to be used and easy development of custom themes.
  • Documentation. There is lots of documentation available, but the examples do not cover all development possibilities. Seems the product has much more capabilities than shown in the examples available.
  • I miss a complete description of the classes hierarchy, for example.
  • Interface mockup. For ASP MVC, for example, there is no Visual placement for the controls available.
  • Sometimes the support team answers the questions placed linking examples that would already have been visited before asking for help, which is useless.
  • The more I use it, the better. I am applying this kind of solution for different business areas with success and the productivity has been increasing.
  • I am applying it on ASP MVC development, basically, but there is a plenty of features would be easy to apply in different platforms (which turns the ROI even better).
The price/features available (development platforms available, controls available for ASP MVC development, etc.) seemed to be a better choice.

Do you think Progress Kendo UI delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Progress Kendo UI's feature set?

Yes

Did Progress Kendo UI live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Progress Kendo UI go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Progress Kendo UI again?

Yes

The examples and support are getting better and better, but I still miss a more complete set of programming examples. Not all objects' properties and methods are documented with simple examples showing its usage.
Sometimes the solutions presented by the support team are really fast and precise, but, in some situations, the effort describing the problem, sending source code, and small movies showing the problems simply does not work as expected, resulting in lots of unproductive interactions.
Reporting generation: definitely.
Interface development is good, but the productivity is not like dragging and dropping of controls (at least for ASP MVC development).

Using Progress Kendo UI

1 - Software development.
1 - For ASP MVC / DotNet Core MVC development: HTML, C#, and Javascript knowledge are required.
  • Manufacturing Planning and Monitoring
  • Long time execution tasks monitoring (optimization tasks, services execution)
  • Web Interface for IoT solutions
  • Mobile development
So far, the problems I had using the software (usually addressed by the support team) are by far compensated by the overall product quality.

Evaluating Progress Kendo UI and Competitors

  • Price
  • Product Usability
  • Product Reputation
  • Positive Sales Experience with the Vendor
The examples showing the software power were very important, as well as the sales team support before the first acquisition. There were some important questions addressed in this pre-buying phase which contributed to the final decision.
Perhaps using the trial version more intensively, if possible.

Progress Kendo UI Implementation

The implementation process is fairly smooth, but once implemented and with some projects already developed, the upgrade process every time a new release is issued takes plenty of time to accomplish.
  • Lack of sample code provided
  • Lack of experience

Progress Kendo UI Support

ProsCons
Quick Resolution
Good followup
Knowledgeable team
Problems get solved
No escalation required
Quick Initial Response
Difficult to get immediate help
Yes - Sometimes the bug presented will be corrected in the next release or patch, but regularly a workaround is proposed by the support team.
There was a bug introduced in an upgrade release which was freezing the application server. This issue had already been detected by the support team and a patch had already been available for download. That was an "intense" situation addressed quickly by the support team.
