Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Power BI

We work on understanding consumer behavior and usage patterns. Traditionally Excel was used heavily and then the charts were built and published on PPT. However, with Power BI, the jump to interactive dashboards is much easier. Many people started using it and then they started connecting with other data sets and from different databases. They move towards visualizing the data, sharing with executives. We also use the map feature in there and publish online.

Pros

  • Easily load and integrate data from multiple sources.
  • Integration with Office 365 is smooth.
  • Same user Interface as other Microsoft tools so the learning curve is lower.

Cons

  • Lots to do and thus it is hard to be aware of all it does.
  • Updates often so hard to keep on key developments.
  • Sometimes data migration takes time.
Microsoft PowerBI is a powerful tool to get anyone started in analytics, no matter the stage and setting. It is flexible enough to be useful as soon as it is installed and the analyst can start dragging data into it.
Power BI is well suited to anyone with a deep understanding of Excel and Excel Pivots. I also recommend it to anyone who doesn't already know and use similar tools. It is quite quick in terms of the amount of time from knowing nothing to building a reasonably functional dashboard is shorter with Power BI than the other products. It can also be also a good introduction to BI tools in general as it can help to reduce the complexities of a process and help to see the bigger picture.
