Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Visio
Working in Marketing in a client-facing position, data visualization is a must. Not only for pitching our own products and services, but also to help my clients do the same in their own organization. I've been working in the Microsoft ecosystem ever since I was first in business, so it's nice to have an easy to use program like this under the Microsoft umbrella.
Pros
- Flow Charts
- Company Organization Layouts
- Quick and Easy to use for established Office users
Cons
- Might be a little too simple at times; we also use Adobe Illustrator for more detailed charts when Visio won't quite cut it.
- Just like in software programs like Word and Powerpoint, it's easy to slip up, drop a graphic element in the wrong place and mess up your whole chart.
- Cost - there are some free or cheaper solutions that offer a similar experience (we used a couple before having the budget for Visio)
- Ease of use (for myself as well as assisting others who are likely in the Microsoft ecosystem)
- Quality of visualizations and graphics; as these are used as presentation materials for existing and potential clients
- Easy integration with Word and Powerpoint as we finalize printed sales pitches and live presentations.
- We have absolutely gained clients by visualizing our content, rather than handing the potential client a stapled packet with nothing but text.
- Quicker training process; while other visualization software requires a "start from scratch" approach, most people are familiar with at least one MS program, which makes the training process faster and easier
- Exported graphics are very clean and professional looking.
Chose it for the ease of use, the professionalism of the exported visuals, and the quick and easy learning curve. I personally use Adobe Illustrator for some of the more complex graphics needed, as I've been using that platform for years; but training contractors and clients in MS Visio, they've often used MS products for years if not decades, and can jump in to a proficient level of Visio very quickly.
