Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Visual Studio
Microsoft Visual Studio is being used for several years now and we do it for application development in several languages and stack (ASP.net core, C# etc.). It's great for any developer to have an unified platform for development where you can design your front end, backend, have SQL support etc. One great feature is the intellisense and the popup suggestion that comes if any error has happened. In our organisation, we use Microsoft Visual Studio for almost all development projects.
Pros
- Intellisense - telling what you might want to type
- Debugging
- On error - suggesting probable solution
- Help files / online forums
Cons
- debugging in front end development could be better
- AI driven Drag and drop Design based development can be looked at
- Video tutorials can be expanded
- Since we are using this for several years, it's difficult to compare to a situation where we were not using it. But overall, ROI improvement > 30%
- Time spent (productivity) less by 40-50% (compared to a situation when we are not using it)
- We are using it for almost all development. Case of using something else is almost NIL now.
Eclipse is also very good but it's more suitable for Java development. Our requirement is more towards .Net, C# and hence Microsoft Visual Studio works well for us. If your primary requirement is Java and cross platform, Eclipse works well. But our specific requirement makes little sense to go there. VS works well for us.
