Overall Satisfaction with Miro
I use Miro as a mind-mapping organizational tool. I currently do not use a significant number of advanced features; I simply need a virtual whiteboard that comes with me everywhere. Somewhere to organize notes, include photos, create simple flowcharts & schedules, etc. The biggest challenge that I deal with is communicating complicated systems or information in a way that is easily digestible by a "non-expert" and Miro is an excellent way for me (a visual person) to communicate with others.
Pros
- Cross-platform integration - I can pick up by phone, tablet, or laptop and have access to all of my boards.
- Basic functionality is very quick and easy to learn. When convincing others to try/use this software, it helps immensely that someone with zero experience can quickly jump in and drop a few sticky notes, add text, draw shapes, etc. Superusers that want to learn advanced functions, connections to other software, etc. are free to do so but these tools are not presented in a way that overwhelms a new user.
- I know it's a simple feature, but the flowchart connected arrows when I move a box is one of the major features that I do not have in my PDF editor (which I love and used for everything before I met Miro). The ability to reorganize my diagrams without having to go back and reconnect everything was a game-changer for me.
Cons
- I am not a user of the integrations, so I cannot comment on that functionality.
- In the desktop app, I have my usual 8-10 boards open as tabs at the top. During my workday when I am working on other tasks, the active tab will turn grey, and the content will not be accessible. I can close and reopen the software to fix the problem. Minor glitch but can be a little annoying.
We are a very collaborative organization, and our employees are often jumping up in meetings to make a quick sketch or diagram on the whiteboard. Miro allows us to have this same level of engagement and enthusiasm with remote workers. We've been able to better support the people at our organization by providing options to work where they are most productive while maintaining in-person style collaboration.
I've used Apple Freeform briefly, but was not impressed with the functionality and it did not have a native app for my windows computer. Ultimately it was easier to add Miro to my iPhone and use that.
