Overall Satisfaction with MS SharePoint / SQL

We use Sharepoint as the ‘shell’ for the frontend of our software, so we can use some functionalities of SharePoint which means we don’t have to provide these ourselves (authentication, tasks, sometimes storing documents) We use SQL for everything related to data.

Pros

  • Quickly useable frontend with functionalities
  • Easy ad authentication
  • Basic DMS functionalities

Cons

  • Learning curve, can be time consuming
  • Sharepoint expertise is becoming rarer
  • CMS is basic
  • Provides functionalities we didnt have to build ourselves as a result
  • Gives customers some control of their own
Users quickly understand how it works, it fits well in the MS ecosystem.

can be hard to maintain, Sharepoint is a special expertise that has to be acquired

Do you think Microsoft SharePoint delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Microsoft SharePoint's feature set?

Yes

Did Microsoft SharePoint live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Microsoft SharePoint go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Microsoft SharePoint again?

No

It really depends on the use case. As a CMS to provide an external website: not so much, there are better alternatives. for an internal site or intranet, it does this well. it can become costly quickly especially with a farm, i recommend researching which functionalities can be used and then see if this justifies the cost (SharePoint but also sql, the needed infra for a decent farm)
