Overall Satisfaction with Nextcloud

I have one of my clients use it as an alternative to OneDrive/Sharepoint for cloud file storage. We had issues with very large numbers of files that would cause other platforms we tested with to fail, but Nextcloud handled it effectively. It also handled larger sizes without an issue.

  • We simply couldn't find another solution that would work. So it was either this, or not have a solution.
I was able to train staff in just a few minutes how to use it properly in their environment. From an admin side, things could be better, but they aren't horrible. Having a convenient container that I could deploy inside of TrueNAS made things very convenient and easy to set up. Enabling SSL went without a hitch. The most difficult thing was getting SSO to work with Microsoft 365.
Nextcloud was the only solution that would authenticate with Microsoft 365 while also running on all of their machines, handle absurdly high file number counts, and the occasional large file. We couldn't find other platforms that would do that at all, or that would say they could, and would fail.

If an organization has a very large number of files and/or large files, I think Nextcloud is a great fit. It is also very good if you have a lot of various operating systems in your environment.
