Nintex - the Go-To platform for Fire Department Processes
Overall Satisfaction with Nintex Process Platform
We use Nintex across the City of Garland. Here at the Fire Department, we use it for a great many purposes. We use it for processes that are highly regulated such as Narcotics tracking, SCBA daily checks, PPE bunker gear, Assets & inventory just to name a few. We also use it for document storage and versioning such as Directives and SOPs and many many other uses. This is our go-to platform at the Fire Department.
Pros
- Tracking activity for the life of the item
- Allows workflows to automate processes
- Customizable forms for all your needs
- Intuitive interface and drag and drop functionality
- Easy object oriented workflows
Cons
- Ability to print/document workflows so you can retain records of workflows & forms in hard copy
- Signatures across all form types
- More functionality for the mobile platform
- Be able to use more objects in responsive forms
- Nintex has saved the department many hours of work by allowing us to use simple forms and workflows and taking us away from spreadsheets and outdated databases.
- Our audits used to take hours and our last audit took only 30 minutes, thanks to the tracking abilities we now have using Nintex forms.
- Once I learned the best practices for setting up the processes, I was able to create forms & workflows that other people could update going forward so changes happen easily as things occur. An administrator is not needed, after going live.
We currently use the On-Premise Enterprise platform. I would love to have the Office 365 version for greater flexibility, however, what we have gives me all I currently need to get my job done. I hear there may be hope for going that way in the future.
Most of the people using Nintex in the City of Garland are actually not IT personnel. We have a group of citizen developers who help each other with different projects, so no one has to do the heavy lifting alone. If one department has a need, someone in another department may have done something similar, and [someone is always] willing to help them with their project. It is exciting to see the ideas each department has for each case and [see everyone] brainstorm with each other.
I love how Nintex allows you to build solutions without code. Most of our users have never coded anything and they are catching on quickly. We no longer have to rely on the IT department to take the time to help us with our projects. This allows us to get processes built in a fraction of the time it would take if we all had to wait for IT, to have the resources and the budget.
Most of the solutions we make are accomplished quite quickly. Of course, there are always those projects which are a little more involved which require a bit more time to develop, but as a whole, processes are able to go from thought to deployment in a fraction of the time. Some [by] weeks or even hours.
When I started at the Garland Fire Department, Nintex was a platform they had just purchased, and no one really knew what it could do. Once we saw the power of the forms and workflows we haven't slowed down. Nintex is now our Go-To application for most anything we need to do. We look at the process or the need and look to Nintex first for resolution.
