Overall Satisfaction with Odoo

We use Odoo for reporting & accounting purposes. We are a conveyor belting shop that works with an extensive inventory, and we have found Odoo to be an excellent platform for managing inventory, processing orders, bills, invoices, etc., and reconciling our accounts. The main apps that we work with are accounting, sales, purchase, and inventory, but we have others for reference as well.

Pros

  • Managing Inventory- especially working with landed costs
  • Reporting- Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow, etc.
  • Bank Reconciliation

Cons

  • Connecting Sales & Purchase to track the flow of outside orders
  • End of year closing procedures
  • Inventory Valuation procedures
  • Tasks that would take all day in SAP are finished in the morning with Odoo
  • The reporting functions save me hours at the end of each month/quarter/year
Once you complete the training with Odoo, you have a great grasp of how the system works, and most every feature is intuitive- There is rarely a task within Odoo that I get frustrated trying to figure out- I can typically look through the system and find what I need to do, and if I ever do need support, the Odoo Support team is excellent.
Odoo is much easier to use than SAP and is much more adaptable and cost effective. Odoo is much more of a complete system than Quickbooks and more thorough in its approach. If you have a very basic business to run, Quickbooks could work, but if you have any customizations that you are looking for, Odoo is the best in the business.

We used to use SAP Business One and found it very difficult and expensive to make any modifications to specifically fit our business needs- Odoo is very adaptive- any business that feels that it has a unique set up for inventory or sales processes, Odoo is the best for crafting a unique, personalized approach to accounting for your business needs.
The only scenario that I would say wouldn't be the best is if you are company that needs to "close" months and periods- Odoo is set up to be able to continuously look back to prior periods and still make adjustments, which can be difficult if a transaction occurs that you don't realize will affect a prior period and then you have to amend reports.
