Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Database 12c

We use Oracle Database 12c across our whole organization. It is our primary database product. Our PeopleSoft Campus Solutions uses Oracle as the database along with many other systems on campus. I personally use database tables with millions of records and they continue to respond very well. The performance of the database is great, I don't have any complaints.
  • The database performs well for transactional and reporting use, even with very large datasets.
  • There are a wide range of delivered functions available that really help with reporting.
  • The documentation from Oracle is actually very usable and there are many other expert sources to draw from.
  • I do not have the technical expertise of a DBA, so I do not know if what I see as limitations are due to the product or our specific implementation.
  • We have always used Oracle Databases with our ERP system. From listening to institutions with other databases it sounds like we have made the right choice.
  • As we continue to accumulate more and more data, our database continues to meet our needs.
I have heard from other similar institutions that they have problems unique to their DB2 database when using the ERP that we have in common. I found the DB2 database system difficult to interact with when I had to use it for a project many years ago. I personally developed some smaller projects using MySQL and while it worked well for that, I don't know that I would use it for an ERP.
Oracle Database 12c is well suited for uses with a high volume of transactions. Or any use case with thousands of tables and millions of rows of data. It would likely be overkill for any project with low activity and small data storage needs.
