Overall Satisfaction with Parallels Remote Application Server
We use Parallels Remote Application Server (RAS) to provide our business application streaming to our end users. We use VDI as well. While we use both RAS and Citrix, RAS is a very simple and powerful solution.
- HTML5 is supported, where we can limit the users who can access the server
- Universal printing
- VDI Solutions
- Many features are limited in terms of HTML5 and Chrome OS, like multi monitor support with HTML5
- Device redirection option is missing in HTML5
- RDP connection also counted as RAS Connection. It has to be fixed
- It would be better if the license cost included RDS license
- Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (formerly XenDesktop)
We use Citrix and RAS both, and RAS is a cheaper, simplified solution compare to Citrix.
Parallels Remote Application Server is very simple to configure. It will take only 5 minutes to configure, farm, and publish apps if you have required server in place and ready.
When it comes to VDI solution, the RAS team did a very good job as they have their built-in agent installed to hypervisors and it will provide seamless access to the VMs.
RAS uses many security protocols such as MFA and SSL. They even use the same encryption while using a load balancer. SSL Offloading with HALB simplifies all SSL issues as we deploy the SSL at the load balancer level. Many MFA providers work and are supported with RAS.
