Overall Satisfaction with PitchBook
PitchBook is used to support both investor relations and new investment business development. Searches are conducted to identify potential new investors, to keep track of energy & cleantech deal flow, and for benchmarking performance. Data is also sync'd with our CRM system. Alerts are set up to share new research, deals, and fundings that happen with in our industry.
Pros
- Tracks funding rounds for start-ups and growth equity investments
- Provide performance data for fund managers and fund familys
- Provides interesting research on specific investment sectors
- Allows companies/managers to manage their content
Cons
- Morningstar research is not particularly helpful or insightful; opportunity to leverage analyst reports
- Excel plugin is limited and download restriction is frustrating
- Enterprise access vs. user model
- Has helped identify new investors and their preferences
- Has helped benchmark our funds vs. others
- Saved time in finding good contact information for BD purposes
We use PitchBook to run searchs, supplement our internally gathered data, and to compliment the data in our CRM systems or other subscriptions. The alerts and deal tracking provide ways to quickly get up to speed on capital raises and emerges companies which support our BD efforts significantly. Generally PitchBook data is pretty good and is updated and corrected quickly.
PitchBook excels at private company data and has significantly improved its coverage of investors and funds. It is generally more easy to navigate and information is updated frequently. It is not nearly as strong with public, credit or market data including access to news and analyst reports. PitchBook cannot cover our total financial / deal needs.
