Overall Satisfaction with Planview Projectplace

Planview Projectplace is specifically designed for Portfolio and Resource management, as opposed to only manage single projects, so it mostly makes sense if you are a company with enough programs running in parallel. It was used as part of our selection process to update our project methodology and better serve multiple customers. Because multiple offices over the world and various languages are used, as well as significant differences in project sizes, we needed to have a very simple yet effective solution to manage it all.
  • It has every basic feature you'd expect from a portfolio solution
  • Strong document management (tracking, security, collaboration, etc.)
  • Easy drilldown and dependencies analysis across projects
  • Pricing - the PPM market is saturated at a bargain price, and Projectplace does not offer anything unique
  • In the end, it was too simple for us and did not fit with agile frameworks such SAFe
  • Very limited API capabilities makes it difficult to integrate the tool with your technology stack, and even standard 3rd-party solutions such as Zoom took months before getting released
  • Easy-to-setup with appropriate training content available online for free
  • Great traceability and easy storage of documents
  • No positive ROI was observed, the pricing model did not make sense at all for us

Do you think Planview ProjectPlace delivers good value for the price?

No

Yes

No

Did implementation of Planview ProjectPlace go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Planview ProjectPlace again?

No

We never had issues with the support. They have multiple offices so you can easily be supported on various time zones and different languages. However, do not expect "Level 3" agents. You will go through multiple levels before reaching someone who has industry knowledge of how projects are done in general, as opposed to simply tell you which button to click on.
Planview Projectplace is fairly simple to use. The overall setup and project build were fairly quick, and the user interface itself is somewhat modern and clean. We have not noticed a lot of user complaints on how to use the tool, but they were rather disappointed by the lack of features and integrations with the rest of the solutions they're using daily.
The price made it impossible for us to select Projectplace as a long-term solution so it was quickly discarded. But the main issue was really the lack of support for more complex agile methodologies. We were unable to really work within a pure SAFe or Scrum framework since the solution seemed to be taking more of a waterfall approach with Kanban boards on top.
Planview Projectplace definitely makes sense if you've been using their solutions in the past years so that you don't have to spend much on change management and training. Other than that, it does offer all the features you would expect from a PPM tool in a relatively simple way. However, considering the price per user and the number of well-priced competitors on the market (both at Enterprise and SME level), it makes it really difficult to invest in Projectplace as new customer.
