Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used QuickBooks Pro in our finance, payroll, and Human Resource departments. It handled all of our accounting functions, to include AR. Payroll was a shared process with Human Resources. Human Resources also used it as a de facto HRIS system since the company did not have one in place.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Payroll - fairly easy process to learn and repeat accurately.
General ledger easy to set up and understand.
Building custom reports for financials, payroll, and employee info is not difficult.

Cons

Tracking employee changes, like pay rates, benefits, etc. This is a 100% manual process and there is no audit trail.
Inability to access the system and make changes when another user is logged in.

Likelihood to Recommend

Works well with companies up to 75 or so employees. Any more than that and I think you will open yourself up to potential payroll tax issues. There is not much guidance from the software, so it is possible to make a costly mistake. Your finance and payroll employees will need to be compliance experts.
