Overall Satisfaction with Read&Write
We use Read&Write in our school district for students with disabilities such as dyslexia. The features that we use the most are word prediction, speech to text, and text to speech. Read&Write is great but it is missing some of the functionality of CoWriter (which is going away, with some features rolled into Read&Write). [1] Read&Write loads much slower than CoWriter. [2] The Read&Write topic dictionaries are not as robust as the CoWriter topic dictionaries. [3] CoWriter had a function, that Read&Write does not have, called "speak after speech to text", which reads back what a student has dictated. All of that being said, overall Read&Write is a great program to help individuals who struggle with reading and/or written expression
Pros
- word prediction
- text to speech
- speech to text
Cons
- speed for the extension to load when turned on
- speak after speech to text
- more robust topic dictionaries
- we use Read&Write for students, not for employees, although there may be some employees who use it
- not for employees
- although there may be some employees who use it
We exclusively use it within Google Chrome
There have been some students who are extremely proficient in using Read&Write. Even though they have a disability that impacts their ability to spell, using Read&Write, they are able to generate written output with far fewer spelling errors
