Overall Satisfaction with Read&Write
We use this in our school for staff and students to use in daily tasks/lessons and assessments. The features available are useful in all subject areas and give students man opportunities in the day to work independently. Our neurodivergent/low vision students love using this tool regularly to complete learning tasks.
Pros
- The 'rewordify' feature is excellent for supporting students doing research tasks and deciphering webpages with lots of information
- The screen reading tool and AI enhanced voices make longer texts easier/faster to process
- The dictionary and picture dictionary tool helps our second language learners understand new vocabulary
Cons
- Sometimes the talk&type takes a while to register that you're speaking, even if you've clicked onto the page and started talking
- The dictionary tool provides literal meanings, it would be great if it could contextualise the meaning of the word
- There is no scope in any of the features for Te Reo Māori yet
- There has been increased engagement with students using this tool in research tasks in several subject areas.
- Our neurodivergent students are able to access work online more independently
- Our staff are engaging with several features in their learning task creation
It has made working with our students easier because the tool can provide translation/dictionary definitions. These are our high frequency questions in a classroom, so giving them a tool to seek these answers themselves gives the teacher more time to support deeper thinking/understanding in their subject area.
One of our severely Dyslexic students uses this tool to make vice notes for most of her assessments across her subjects. Instead of typing/reading the assessment, she uses the screen reader and voice note tool to record her answers/understanding of the content. The tool has enabled both the teacher and herself to access the curriculum without the barrier of reading/writing.
We use the screenshot reader often in our classes. Things like drama scripts, music sheets or other pdf's can be read online through the screenshot reader.
