Inclusion and independence

We have moved from human readers to assistive technology. At the moment we use it mainly in official exams but some students use it to increase independence. The feedback we are getting is very positive, students report to be more confident, to spend less time with homework and to be able to understand lessons and assignments better. There has been an increase in number of students who make use of their Exam Access Arrangements because 'using Read & Write doesn't feel like standing out'.
We are looking forward to keeping exploring the possibilities that Read & Write brings to our school.

It is great. Our students can access the program both from school and from home and therefore, they can decide when it is better to use Read & Write and when it is better to try and work completely independent. some parents have given us positive feedback about the use of it at home.

We have a student in Y8 who is not able to read or write. He is learning how to use Read & Write and this has impacted his self-esteem, his results and his overall attitude to learning. This particular student now understands that even though he has some barriers they can be overcome and he has greater aspirations.
