Star reading creates Star readers.
Overall Satisfaction with Renaissance Star Assessments
I use Star assessments 3-4 times a year. All students take the Star assessment and we use the data to set students up with books at correct level. Goals are set for each student based on the Star assessment. We track the Star results over time to monitor progress and use the data to create interventions.
Pros
- Finds student reading level
- Provides ZPD
- Tracks student progress over time
Cons
- Uses close format mostly
- Does not listen to student reading for accuracy
- Track fluency
- Quick reading levels
- Reading ranges
- Tracking of student progress
- Students motivated to improve their results
- A negative is the bounces up and down in data
- Helps teachers program for students
- Blackboard Assessment & Accreditation Solution
Star Reading is far better than any product I have used. It provides adjusting question level while the test is going on. Adjusting to the responses of the learner. It is accurate and compares well to other assessments we use like PM benchmarks and F&P assessments. The ease of use for teaches and students make it a perfect product.

Using Renaissance Star Assessments
14 - Teachers. The teachers use the product to assess their students 3-4 times a year. They do an assessment in September, December, March, and June. The data is used to inform teachers and students of reading levels and where the skills deficits are. We then use the read8ng levels to create goals 8n the Accelerated Reader program.
1 - The program is maintained and supported by our teacher librarian. He has been using the system for 18 years and does PD, reading, Renaissance Royals and talks with Renaissance support team to solve problems. He is an excellent support to the school and is available to teach others how to implement the program.

Evaluating Renaissance Star Assessments and Competitors
- Product Usability
This is getting a little long winded. I don’t really have 50 words on why we chose it. I read about the product, watched videos, and led an online training session With another teacher at a school locally using the product. Once we saw the benefits of using it we were sold for the last 18 years.

Quick Resolution Good followup Knowledgeable team Problems get solved Kept well informed No escalation required Immediate help available Support understands my problem Support cares about my success Quick Initial Response | None |
I don’t know about the premium support. The cost of the products are already too expensive and are pushing our school to have to weigh options about continuing with Renaissance products. We have seen the prices soar in recent years making it difficult for our school. This is especially true as we are in Canada and have to pay the exchange rate in US dollars.
I have called in to discuss the record book. They were very helpful, polite, and stayed with me till I got the answers I needed. If they could not answer me right then they got back to me to update and solve the problems. There are hardly any issues with Star.
