Overall Satisfaction with Sage Intacct

Our accounting department uses Sage Intacct for a wide variety of ERM functions including general ledger, accounts payable, and bank reconciliation. Intacct also provides us with tools that help address internal controls and allows lighter users a read-only view of our accounting system, which is useful for executive users and auditors alike. Intacct's reporting function is quite robust and allows us to create financials that match our unique needs in the highly regulated insurance industry. Additionally, budgeting and budget reports are pretty intuitive using Intacct's ability to incorporate multiple dimensions. Sage Intacct has provided us with a much more efficient ERM package than our previous solution.

Pros

  • Flexibility - Sage Intacct provides us with a wide variety of user-friendly ERM functions.
  • Reporting - Sage Intacct uses several dimensions that, combined with a robust reporting tool, make reports usable . That's a rarity in ERM.
  • Security - Sage Intacct has a security function that is easily customized and allows flexibility for company size when it comes to controls, authorizations, etc.
  • Imaging - Sage Intacct makes it easy to tie transactions to invoices, emails, and any other document you want. This would normally be handled by a separate tool, but Intacct makes attaching images seamless.

Cons

  • Vendors - Adding vendors is easy. However, separation of controls is a little sticky in this area. We'd like to be able to restrict our users' ability to add/edit vendors and create payments to them. Vendor approvals would help us mitigate this problem.
  • Corrections - making errors in an ERM system is inevitable. Most of the time Sage Intacct allows us to reverse mistakes, but not everywhere.
  • Interface - most of the UI is smooth and easy to understand. There are a few locations that looks different, which creates a bit of a choppy experience.
  • Reporting - we are able to use Intacct's reports for our monthly financial statement publication. It also provides flexibility for ad hoc reports that assist management in reviewing and making business decisions.
  • Intacct is a cost effective ERM solution that has saved us countless hours from the prior system.
  • Intacct's controls are quite effective for our small accounting group. Not all options in this space are as effective at presenting solutions and reporting that enhance internal controls.
It allows us to import files for GL, cash management, AP, AR and so on. This allows us to have the benefits and flexibility of recording transactions in Excel and still being able to easily get that data into Intacct.
We do use multi-entity functionality, which makes it particularly easy to move from one company to another. Running trial balances and reports is ideal in Intacct.
We were able to configure all of our modules with some guidance and help from the Sage implementation team. The setup and interface in Intacct are pretty user friendly and we found the process pretty easy overall.
Net Suite was the other product I evaluated when deciding on an ERM solution. By comparison, the two products are pretty competitive in usability and price.

Would you buy Sage Intacct again?

Yes

I believe Sage Intacct would be able to handle general ledger and other functions for small and large companies alike. I have actually used the product at three employers during my career and the product is very flexible in what it allows a company to do. Companies may run into challenges if they process a large volume of checks as Intacct is not ideal for that kind of volume. The system also does not easily allow for creating flat files that are helpful in creating bank files (such as ACH payments), but it can be done! Sage Intacct does a nice job of reaching out to its customers and trying to improve their product. Their previous solution for fixing routine problems was employment of a community website where users can go to ask for or offer solutions. I found this approach to customer service was not a particularly easy way of finding answers, but since my last time using the product, Sage has added a contact for direct support. These two options together make the customer service approach far more palatable.

COVID-19 Updates & Changes

Setup with Intacct's help was as straightforward a process as I have seen. Conversion is always a little challenging and never easy. But the knowledge and help Intacct provided was as good as it gets.
