Overall Satisfaction with Sage Intacct
Intacct has been a big upgrade for our company; the implementation went well several years ago and we saw time savings and process improvements in all our accounting functions right away! Since then we've continued to make process improvements as we've learned to use the cloud-based software at a higher level. We love how Intacct is constantly improving the software and they have even taken some of our own suggestions and added that into the software; which was great for our needs and neat to see. The software is mainly used by the accounting department but we do have the option to create "view only" user accounts for other departments as needed! The software has brought us up to speed with current leading-edge technology that we can access from anywhere!
Pros
- Journal Entries are very easy to prepare! I like to use the import template to add journal entries into Intacct but its also very easy to manually add short journal entries into the system. Journal support is very easy to add and is saved in the cloud. We've customized the entities and dimensions that we use to make it how we wanted based on our needs and it's easy to submit journals. Then once approved, entries are automatically posted (we had to manually post in our old system) and are easy to reverse and search/view later
- Intacct Dashboards are very easy to create and customize. We like to use dashboards for a lot of different things and they are a quick way to pull up a small or large group of reports or validations. This saves us time and helps us quickly find any errors or issues.
- The chat feature of Intacct is great because you can tag someone anywhere in the system and ask them a question or let them know something needs to be fixed/updated. This can send them an email link or they can view it the next time they sign in and there is a history so you can find these messages again later.
- We have found we like creating invoices in the A/R system as well as the Order Entry/Projects Modules. There are several ways to create invoices, which has given us a lot of options. We can track projects and project costs and invoice those easily or can simply create flat invoice amounts. These can be done manually one by one or more quickly by using an import template. We use both methods weekly and even customized invoice format/appearance. Intacct has so many options that make it great!
Cons
- One thing that I'd like to see improved is that some of the modules have slightly different functionality/format than the main system. I think I've noticed this most when doing things in the Prepaid and Fixed Asset modules. These modules still work good but I would say they aren't as user friendly as the main systems and don't have as much functionality as the main system. For example, we use a dimension we call "Lines of Business" for different types of work we do. In the main system, we can create allocations that may hit many lines of business, but in the Prepaid module we can only select one line of business (there is no allocation option) so we sometimes have to manually split prepaid invoices into several prepaid entries. not a big deal but this could be a future improvement for Intacct
- We've had a funny issue before when cloning dimensions in the system. We might be setting up a new line of business and clone an old one to make it fast. When we did this the system changed old entries from the old line of business to be the new cloned line of business so we had to do manual journal entries to fix this cloning issue. Not sure why this happened but we haven't tried cloning something since. On the other hand, duplicating journal entries in the general ledger works very well to quickly create an entry that might be similar to a prior.
- Intacct has given us great time savings over the prior accounting software we had been using!
- Intacct has helped us improve our processes and given us better access to the software.
- I can't think of a time that Intacct hasn't been available to use. No downtime is impressive with any software, especially cloud-based!
Having integrated and automated functionality between Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and the General Ledger keeps our data reliable and accurate. We reconcile our accounts to verify there aren't discrepancies as part of our processes but the functionality of Intacct makes this a quick check and done!
I only helped a small amount when we were implementing and configuring Intacct but I know that we were able to do a lot of importing to quickly and easily add historical data, old and new customers/vendors, and dimensions. We had help implementing Intacct from a 3rd party who did an excellent job assisting us, helping us learn Intacct, and answering lots of our questions!
