Overall Satisfaction with SAP Concur

I am the primary user of SAP Concur in my team of 30+ members. Our team uses SAP Concur to manage business expenses and recurring charges attributed to the business's American Express card. I use SAP Concur about once or twice a week to manage expenses and code them by line of business and country. It is crucial that the team has a tool to manage expenses effectively, as we spend upwards of $80,000 each month. I also work cross-functionally with the finance team to suggest improvements in the expensing process with Concur, and I have been involved in support cases with SAP Concur's IT team to make these improvements.

Pros

  • SAP Concur's integration with American Express allows charges to populate in Concur automatically. It also pulls relevant details about the vendor, the transaction date, and so on.
  • SAP Concur's Expense Assistant creates reports automatically at the beginning of each month, and automatically moves expenses incurred during that month into the report. This makes it easy to create and organize monthly reports for businesses that submit their team's expenses on a monthly basis.
  • I appreciate that SAP Concur provides the option for a cardholder or primary business financial representative to have delegates who can work on expense reports throughout the month, acting as the cardholder. This has made it very easy for my team to work on expense reports without having to interact with senior leadership about every little charge.

Cons

  • In an increasingly AI driven world, SAP Concur is behind in terms of automation. Coding expenses is a time consuming, lengthy process, and Concur doesn't do much to help improve efficiencies. I would love to see the Expense Assistant utilize AI tools in order to save time. It would be amazing to have an AI tool that can read uploaded PDF invoices, and auto apply itemizations.
  • Editing multiple expenses at once is not seamless, adding to the amount of time it takes to finish a monthly report. I would like the ability to select multiple invoices at once in order to change the line of business, the country, or the allocation of each invoice, without affecting the rest of the report.
  • A few months or a year ago, some part of Concur's integration with AmEx lost the ability to translate any sort of transaction ID from each platform. For example, when coding invoices from Meta advertising, the 'vendor name' used to include a string of letters and numbers that corresponded to the information in Meta's platform, making them easy to find. As a specific example, the vendor name field would appear as 'FACEBOOK 3T8D901', and now, the vendor name field appears as 'META PLATFORMS'. This may not be the fault of Concur; however, when we raised this issue to Concur's support team, we weren't able to solve the issues of missing transaction IDs. For companies that have several - sometimes upwards of 40 - invoices from the same vendor, not having the exact transaction ID for each invoice can be a major problem.
  • SAP Concur provides increased transparency into spending, but at a team by team level rather than company spending overall. As a corporate card reconciler, I don't have any transparency into other team's spending.
  • SAP Concur has had little impact on time saving and efficiency throughout the 3 years that I have used this product. I still must dedicate the same amount of time each month to reconciling invoices incurred by the corporate card. However, recently we have begun introducing more delegates to the Concur account, so that each sub team of the department has a representative that can code the expenses that they are responsible for incurring. Delegation is nice - however, SAP Concur is lacking in automation tools. In an AI driven world, Concur is behind.
  • Until recently, SAP Concur's interface has felt quite dated, and I frequently ran into issues of lagging or buffering when trying to upload documents. This had a negative impact on the time spent coding expenses.
We use Quickbooks Enterprises, but we do not have an integration with SAP Concur. In fact, Quickbooks is much easier to use than Concur.

We utilize the American Express integration with SAP Concur, that automatically populates charges to the corporate card into the Concur platform. This has led to easy organization of charges that hit the AmEx card.

The finance team utilizes the SAP integration in order to identify vendor information. They are also able to make adjustments to categories of expenses, lines of business, etc. fairly quickly. We routinely change the identification of lines of business here, so having the ease of use is beneficial.

Not applicable. I am not familiar with any other tool outside of SAP Concur. I became familiar with it as I was onboarded at my company, and we've made no effort to switch to another product.
SAP Concur has had no impact on the growth of our company. I would like to say that it has had at least a neutral impact, but in my role as a corporate charge reconciler, I just find Concur to be a bit of a pain. It does what it needs to do, but not much more. As our company evolves into the world of automation, we are starting to use AI tools across the business in surprising ways in project management, copywriting, image generation, and so on. Yet the process of expensing and reconciling corporate charges with Concur just feels like it's behind the curve.
It hasn't. I feel that SAP Concur has a lot of room to improve in terms of allowing for ease of use and collaboration amongst teams.

Do you think SAP Concur delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with SAP Concur's feature set?

No

Did SAP Concur live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of SAP Concur go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy SAP Concur again?

No

For smaller companies that have a limited number of invoices to code and expense each month, I would recommend a platform like SAP Concur. It works well enough, and has enough features that a team of 2-3 individuals can easily tackle their company's expenditures each month. However, for larger enterprises, I would not recommend Concur. I myself work at a reasonably mid-sized company, that works with expenses in the five to six figure range each month, and I find SAP Concur at best a mild annoyance, and at worst, an inefficient time suck.
