Overall Satisfaction with SAP Concur
Concur supports us with travel and general-related expenses. It addresses problems such as lack of integration with the employee and FI data, connecting to S/4 HANA to grab this data and provides a good public cloud and mobile app accessibility. The scope of our usage relates to general expenses approval, from the end user perspective.
Pros
- Travel calculation
- Expense calculation
- Mobile User Experience
- Connectivity to S/4 HANA
Cons
- Concur's Identity API is unfortunately outdated and incomplete. This brings different problems caused by it, such as
- Challenges to integrate SAP CIS to Concur, providing standard field information such as UUID and Manager, necessary for strategic SAP implementations such as Task Center for approvals, and SAP Joule.
- Identity Management - Concur API possibilities bring challenges to implement and automatic creation/update/deletion of user master data, using the SAP standard product CIS/IPS
- The usage of the system can be a bit unclear and not very intuitive for new users.
- Faster reimbursement is definitely true. Once approved, the money is back to the employee account in a couple days.
- ROI can definitely be achieved, but would be much faster if we had better integration possibilities with SAP Cloud Products
- Support can be a bit challenging as well, as we need to involve SAP Concur support for a lot of tasks we could easily train an internal resource and get faster support to requests.
S/4 HANA is the main system/ERP. There we basically provide FI module information, as well as business partner information for users. There is quite a complex report we can run to semi-automatize the creation process, but not state-of-the-art, and also not following the general SAP strategy. The reason for this is again the lack of API support from the Concur side.
Travel and Expense is a very strategic topic, and it should be for most of the companies. Concur was a acquisition by SAP like Ariba, Fieldglass, etc. There is definitely an onboarding needed to SAP standards that can take years. I know Ariba has its own challenges too, but for Concur, the lack of strategic alignment to the other major products, like BTP, and for such important topics, like Security, Identity Management, and AI, it's really bad to see them providing major integration challenges to what SAP would classify as the "Intelligent Enterprise"
Absolutely. The time-to-reimbursement was a huge improvement for the company. People tend to have good experiences in general with Concur. I see still major User Experience changes if I use the browser or the app. I particularly like the app and the OCR system that focus and improve the invoices readability, and with the use I have no problems with. For new users, can be a bit confusing to understand if you have never use such tool before.
I believe I answer part of this on the last question. From my point of view there are considerable differences between the browser solution and the mobile app. I find the mobile app more intuitive, and like the OCR features, making it possible to quickly scan invoices on the go to avoid losing them. Admin-related, due to the lack of integration capabilities, we need a lot of manual effort from our IT colleagues. Hopefully this will change soon and we would be able to automatize everything
