Overall Satisfaction with SAP Datasphere

Use Datasphere as a next generation data warehouse solution for SAP data. We migrated from a classic BW environment. The capabilities of being able to replicate data in near-real time directly into Datasphere and then use graphical and sql views to transform the data and expose the models to SAC via analytic views really made a great replacement for BW. Users were happy with the performance and look and feel of SAC reports on top of Datasphere

Pros

  • in memory data models
  • great integration with SAC
  • ability to use native sql in modeling

Cons

  • association metadata is inaccessible in 3rd party tools
  • using odata for data export is limiting
  • would like to see a desktop client made available in addition to browser based development
  • solid BW replacement
  • users able to get reports in real-time
  • users struggled adopting SAC
I think its feature set is great. However, the interface for development could be better. Having a thick client available would increase my score as a developer. It's easy to look work if there is a network interruption. Better copy/paste capabilities into tabular formats would be helpful rather than clicking into individual fields to paste single values when setting up a large model with many field renames.

It is great as a modern data warehouse replacement. With new integration with BDC, it does seem to be marketed as the go to ETL tool for those interested in exporting data from S/4. I think it is overkill for customers looking for just exporting their data.
