Overall Satisfaction with Skype for Business
Skype for Business has been deployed across the entire organization and is hosted on premise. We use it for phones, IM, conferencing, and video conferencing. We were able to cut our phone system costs and eliminate per month conference lines. The addition of video to the conferencing improved attentiveness in meetings as well.
- As a soft phone program it works very well and is quite intuitive. The internal address book makes it easy to find other users for calls or IM conversations.
- The video conferencing features are extensive. We use the video portion heavily but the whiteboard and IM features work great too for better collaboration.
- We are in a self hosted setup and our SIP trunk provider is not always reliable. This is no fault of Skype for Business but can cause service interruptions and our users blame it on the app.
- During video conferencing it would be nice to have more flexibility selecting a particular video stream to be primary or able to choose more than one stream to keep highlighted. In a large meeting not all users need to be seen at all times but some of the streams need to stay up regardless of activity levels and non-active streams can hide.
- Skype for Business has had a positive impact on our telecommunications costs.
- It has allowed our remote offices to better communication using video conferencing
- Altigen
I used Altigen at a previous employer and it worked for a basic phone system but doesn't come close to what Skype for Business is capable of.
