Overall Satisfaction with Skype for Business

Skype for Business is being use by my whole company, we all use this to communicate because we have a lot of different locations that people work from. As a programmer I can log into my work computer from home and still talk to people in the office with a lot of ease. Not only do we use Skype for Business for quick questions but we also have scheduled meetings planned on there that can include all of our team members even though some of them are in a different state.

Pros

  • With Skype for business it's super easy to join meetings - we just have to click on the meeting and it connects everyone to the same meeting.
  • I like how easy it is to schedule meetings through Outlook and then it puts it right on your Skype calendar as well.
  • The alerts for meetings is very helpful, sometimes I forget to join the meeting and this little pop up dialogue is very helpful.

Cons

  • My biggest dislike about this version of Skype is that there is no Mac version. I use a Mac when I work from home but since I am using RDP I can't use the Skype from my work computer. I do use Lync but is is definitely not as good as Skype.
  • When I first started using this version of skype some of the things that I needed to find, like how to add people to your contact list, was kind of tricky and it didn't make sense where that was located. I also don't like how contacts are considered to be other contacts, this should just be contacts.
  • In the messaging section of Skype, I wish that the entire conversation history came up when you started talking to the person again.
  • I think that Skype for Business would have a positive return on our business objectives. It helps us stay connected to our other offices and be able to ask a question to someone in a different division in Pennsylvania, for example. It helps us be able to produce a higher quality product.
  • Another positive is response time to customers. With our ability to connect to our customers' IT guys through Skype for Business, it makes solving problems much faster and makes our customers happier.
  • The only negative is that it makes us so fast that we run out of things to do!
  • ooVoo
We used to use software like ooVoo, but this software doesn't have nearly the capability that Skype for Business does. With ooVoo we could essentially just be able to video call with multiple people but sometimes the quality wasn't great and it was hard to add people. Plus they definitely didn't have anything to connect us to our calendars and schedule a meeting as easily as skype does. Over all Skype for Business is significantly better than its competitors!
The best thing about Skype for Business is for sure the multi-person video meetings. Without this option connecting with our Pennsylvania office would be incredibly difficult. A lot of other video calling softwares only allow you to connect to one person at a time when most of the time you need to talk to more than one person. Skype for Business has allowed us to have software development teams with team members in different states! By using Skype we can all be included in team meetings that otherwise wouldn't happen because we aren't in the same place as one another.
