Overall Satisfaction with Slack
Slack has revolutionized the way we communicate and share updates. I first came across slack when joining a new research group, where the lead is split between ours and another academic institution. Email is a bit difficult to keep track of when you're as senior as he is, so I was told to use Slack to keep him up to date with things and ask any questions.
I have since used it for my project, and it is by far one of the easiest ways to manage and communicate with the rest of the team on a day to day basis. I can manage, read, reply to and create my own messages at my leisure, as I could with emails, but without the faff.

- Simple design and super easy to use.
- Lots of customizations and integrations of other apps (like calendars).
- Having a standalone app makes it much more appealing to the younger generation who would prefer to be able to access it on the move too.
- I had a few issues in trying to get the channels set up properly, but less of an issue and more of a learning experience.
- It has made it much easier to communicate with people who are remote to my office, but part of the same team, allowing us to collaborate effectively.
- It's free, so any benefit has already outweighed the input!
The only other alternative for this kind of communication is via email, and Slack just makes specific communications like this, more robust than messaging, but less cumbersome than the email software.
