Use Cases and Deployment Scope

In our smaller company, we use Slack to make company-wide communications quickly, and collaborate between different teams. The collaboration part cannot be overstated, as questions from Sales teams can be answered by product, product marketing, or engineers. It can also offer a direct line of product feedback to the product team. The ability to easily communicate with everyone in the company really helps get things done quickly.

Slack is a great tool for collaboration with small teams and collaborating across teams. However without discipline the overcommunication can quickly become a burden, especially for twitchy employees that jump at every notification. Additionally as companies get larger, you find that everyone feels like they can chime in with irrelevant feedback. Slack could help growing companies create a culture where there's listeners and contributors with additional controls or user labels per-channel.
