A set of tools that you will WANT in your enviroment.
Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor
In our environment, we use SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor across our organization to monitor servers and applications for various business units. These units are separate but under the corporate umbrella. The tool allows for a unified look at our segmented networks.
- Monitoring server performance and up-time.
- Diagnosing issues with applications.
- Tracking down issues with applications.
- Preventing outages, you know when an issue has occurred rapidly.
- Offer professional services for new installations.
- Offer training on the product, some companies would need training.
- Include Netpath/Netflow.
We are a mixed environment. On-premise, cloud, stand-alone, and special requirements. In my environment, you may have devices or systems at remote locations, in the cloud, off-domain, on other domains, or mobile. The tool allows us to manage all of these devices from one pane of glass. Problems are discovered quickly, and the management of these remote devices is made simple.
We have benefited greatly from this capability. Before using the tool, there was little to no insight. The insight given by the tools allows for problems to be discovered quickly, actions to be taken quickly to fix issues before they are realized. If you can monitor your applications and server usage, you can prevent issues that cause downtime.
Prior to having the tool, applications were not monitored, virtualization systems were monitored separately, which created a lot of wasted time and overhead. Because the product does to many things, you need fewer people to manage, you spend less time jumping through a gambit of systems. You can find and resolve issues rapidly. The benefits have offset the price greatly. Without the toolset, we would not be able to manage our mixed environment.
- The Tool pays for itself quickly. ROI is quick, as downtime cost you time and money.
- One outage can cost you more than the licensing for the product.
- Reports can be generated and given to upper management.
- There are really no negatives about this product, it works as it should.
The main tool that we use in our environment is SolarWinds N-able, an MSP designed RMM. Remote monitoring and Management system. We use SolarWinds Orion for our network team, as well as Web Helpdesk for our IT staff and other teams. We also use a lot of SolarWinds network tools that we've had various uses for. Overall SolarWinds has not let us down.
The tool does what it says, and gives you great insight into your environment. Out of all the SolarWinds products that I have used over the years, my top two are SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor and N-Able. Depending on your business needs, either will do the job, but it depends on your use case. For me, I like to work remote, be able to diagnose issues quickly, and fix issues from anywhere that I have an internet connection.
